uninstall perl which I installed via tar.gz

Hi

To improve mod_fastcgi speed I have installed the perl via perl-5.8.9.gz on Centos 5.5

that I installed in /usr/local so the new perl path is /usr/local/bin/perl and old perl is in /usr/bin/perl

Now I want to uninstalled the new perl which I installed through perl-5.8.9.gz.

earlier when I do the perl -v it shows the 5.8.8

but after 5.8.9 its shows the 5.8.9

now I want to uninstalled the perl-5.8.9, I have remove the /usr/local/bin/perl file and then I tried perl -v it gives the following error

-bash: /usr/local/bin/perl: No such file or directory

How I can installed the perl-5.8.9 which I installed through tar.gz. and revert to the old perl-5.8.8. Please guide.

I don't use RedHat of CENTOS, but I assume that PERL is available using the package manager.

Simply delete any file or directory saying "perl", and then install using the package manager

Actually, the tgz file may come with an uninstall option eg
Code:
make uninstall
or even an uninstall script.
Try downloading it again (if already removed) and have a look.

Then of course, use yum to install Perl

My opinion: next time, do not mess with CentOS's base system perl installation. Instead, install your newer perl version in a separate location, and point only the scripts that need it there.
