Unable to receive external emails
My site had been down for sometime and i changed ISP's and moved to dsl from cable, and now my email won't work.
I can receive all mails sent to the root by the system, but if i try sending an emai to an external email like gmail it just queue's them up and when i look at the queue it says network not found as the reason for not sending. When i send mail from gmail to my email it keeps trying to send until it tells me permanent failure in sending to my eamil. I have tried teleneting to mysite.com 25 to see if everything is ok from other comps on the network and everything seems to be ok. I will try this from another comp ouside my network but in the meantime can anyone run a test and see if they will get a response from the smtp on my site. My site is www.muthii.com. Any help on how i can trouble shoot will be highly appreciated i use Postfix. |
I don't seem to ge ta response from port 25, but can ping that address. IP I see is 68.219.52.196
You need to guve more info on setup. Have you forwarder port 25 on your router, is your firewall open, does yo ISP allow port 25 traffic? |
If you check your site with dig for a MX record there isn't one. This is the most likely problem. You need to complete your MX record so that it points to your IP address. As billymayday has suggested you also need to forward requests on port 25 to the mail server if you are using a router.

I checked the router and port 25 is forwarded to server. I will re-check my mx settings. My isp is at&t does anyone know if they allow traffic on port 25.

Rechecked my mx settings everything is ok. But my isp isn't allowing traffic on port 25. Thanks all for your help. Need to look into switching isp's.

Ask them if they'll unblock incoming port 25 requests, and you can relay through their smtp server for outgoing traffic

Did they accommodate you, or did you switch?

They said i have to upgrade my service and get a static IP with no blocked ports. Being a student i have to keep to my budget so am giving it a pass for now.

Who is this ISP?
Also, is there any chance that there is a port like 2025 that they have left open as an alternate, but the tech you spoke wasn't aware of it? |
