Ubuntu server stuck after startup! *Restarting OpenBSD error

I am running Ubuntu Server 9 on my server. I installed VMware server 2 last night and all was well (after some configuring). Today on startup Linux looks good but after startup and login I get an error "*Restarting OpenBSD ....." Has anyone else had this problem or know a solution?
