I am having problems with my vsftpd server. It isn't allowing me to upload, change or delete files. Please keep in mind that this is my first day with Ubuntu server, although I have a pretty good knowledge of chmoding and such. At first I thought it was write_enable, but that is set to first. Now I am led to believe that this is a permissions issue. I am using this command to chmod the /var/www/ directory, and I am getting no result (no error message no confirm message and permissions don't change).
Code:
sudo chmod 777 /var/www/
I don't get any response from the Terminal Window, nor does the permissions change for the folder. So, is it possible to chmod the directory, and allow uploads, deletions and changes to my apache files? Please, I ask that you put this in the simplest form that you can. Thank you for your support.
EDIT: By setting the folder to be mine (not sure how I did that) I was able to change the permissions via the GUI. But, if I am using the server I am unable to do that due to there is no GUI. Also, when I uploaded my file it has a permissions value of XXX (nothing I think) and I had to manually change the file permission to 755. Still, the question remains on how do I chmod the folder for Ubuntu Server.
Thanks.
