Ubuntu Server

Hi All,

I have just purchased a HTPC - cheap purchase pre-built from ebay - ideal size - small box - not too out of place in the lounge.

The HTPC has one rj45 connection built on to the mobo, with a wireless card + aerial in the back (wireless broadband) and I am going to take the dtv card out and replace it with anothe rj45 card.

I intend to run ubuntu server 10.10 on the server and I intend to connect my sky broadband through the server to give me the security of a server based firewall and the security of the server as a whole.

Is there anything I need to know that will cause me any undue problem?

Forever in your debt.

No. Just put a static on the server. If you don't ask for a dhcp address, you won't get one. Problem solved. Having said that, there's no reason for a DHCP IP address to ever change in a home environment.

Wink server use

I am thinking of going over to suse linux enterprise server.

I know the options are wide and varied as to what I can use a server for - but what would be the best options?

I want a secure firewall and secure server that will channel my wired internet to my pc, but are there tools available that will track and keep an eye on access the serve?

Also I write websites so I would like to use the server to host on - especially for my own websites.

Are there any free tutorials or in depth information sites / forums that will help with the config of suse es or do I need a good book on the subject?

Any help is greatly appreciated as I am a linux newbie (Windows has been my thing for years) (sorry for swearing).
