Either the size of the volume needs to be increased, or some unnecessary files need to be deleted.
The "/dev/mapper/" in the volume name suggests that logical volume manager might be in use. With luck, the volume group might have some un-allocated space (and it will be easy to extend the root partition). Could you try opening a terminal window and running
sudo vgdisplay, then posting the output please (if this works, the important line is the one that starts
Free PE / Size).
Also, it would be useful to see where the space is being used up. In the terminal, run the commands:
Code:
cd /
sudo du -s | sort -n
This will show the size of each directory in the root partition, sorted smallest to largest. You can ignore "home", as this is the mountpoint for another partition (you are also likely to get some "No such file or directory" errors for /proc which can be ignored).

This seems reasonable to me. It's quite possible to install a Ubuntu system in 8GB, but I expect trimserver-home contains the home directories for a large number of users, each likely to contain hundreds of megabytes of files.
Anyway, if you can post this information, hopefully it will be clearer what to do next.
