Two servers on one port (not as crazy as it sounds)

I would like port 80 to have a small daemon running on it that detects HTTP traffic and sends a small redirect response, and any other traffic begins streaming data from my VPN daemon. I was wondering if this has already been made, or any kind of technology for detecting types of traffic and allowing you to run multiple types of servers on the same port.

Hello,

Can I ask why you would want to have two services operating on one port? There are 65,536 ports available to the OS, and you want to stick two services on one port...... Makes no sense to me.

Cheers,

Josh

I agree with corp769, The "ports" were created to identify which service should be accessed by a connect request.

The only purpose that I can see for the original question is to work around a corporate firewall. That isn't the sort of thing that we should be involved with here.

I didn't realize that questions were subject to stipulation.

I found a solution using l7-filter for iptables.

Oh ok. Would you mind sharing the solution with us? And since you found a solution, could you mark your thread as solved? Thanks!

Josh
