two ips for a domain


Hi!
I actually have a domain and two ips.
When one internet link is down,the domain should point to the other ip.What do i need to do in dns server(freebsd server).


Your help would be appreciated.

well fundamentally you need an internet link that doesn't go down... DNS resilience is very patchy. A DNS server that you have no control over whatsoever can decide to cache your DNS record for days at a time if it wants to. You can't instantly make a DNS record go somewhere else. In terms of a hack to make this work, you can use some form of dynamic dns server, i've personally used zoneedit.com but you might prefer noip, dyndns etc... and run a script on a machine which you think can tell the status of the links and if it thinks the main link is down to update the DNS service with the new record. It's pretty simple to do, but in terms of being a way to provide HA within minutes, you'll not find it a good solution.
