Tweaking the idle/shutdown timeout

Is there any way to get a system to suspend/power off if it doesn't see any activity on samba shares for a set amount of time? Standard system idle timeouts don't work due to the security measures I've set up (SMB account is completely seperate from the regular user account). Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
