Question Trying to find the right sever distro.

I am trying to set up a minecraft server, but I have encountered problems. I have been using Ubuntu Server, but I can't get everything to work just right. I was wondering if I just needed to find a new distro that doesn't take up much resources and can run a java applet and sync with dropbox.( I already have code to sync that up) any help would be appreciated

I have a Minecraft Server running on OpenSuse 11.3.

You don't give the specs of your system or any details about the problems you are having, so it is going to be kind of hard to help.

ubuntu should be fine as a server. The real key is you will probably need to install SUN Java not the version of Java that is in the ubuntu package manager.

Also just in case you are getting the server running. Certain things don't work in the server version of Minecraft at the moment. Notably Minecarts are broken! Also Redstone circuits not work as expected.

If you can give more details about the problems you are experiencing, and the system specs we can probably help more.

Minecraft server wants to use at least 1G of ram, so you will need a system running at least 2G.

Good Luck.

The server has a 1Ghz processor and 512mb of RAM, but the server will just be between me and a few friends, so I don't expect more than 3-5 people at a time. I have ensured I have the correct Java, but I am trying to sync dropbox to the server so I can edit it from my desktop, but I am constamtly getting errors with xhost(claims it is not found), and not.being able to install openssh, and not being able to authorize the dropbox account (probably has to do with the xhost error)

EDIT: Got it working now without having to use Dropbox
