Trouble setting permissions with apache through Lampp and connecting with domain

I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 desktop (not server) and i'm having trouble accessing the htdocs folder through Lampp. I can get my web pages into it, but i can't access them through http://localhost/cyberpunkasylum.html

(Cyberpunk Asylum is the site. It's a project of mine.)

Also, I have no idea how to link my registered domain name to the main file of the website. i have cyberpunkasylum.blogsite.org registered to my IP, but can't figure out how to get it to show the main file, cyberpunkasylum.html .

oh...and do you know how I can set Lampp to run as a system service, so i don't have to run /opt/lampp/lampp start every time at startup? I leave for college in the fall, and havign it so my mother can just turn it on and log in in case it shuts off would make maintenance easier.

i'm pretty new to server maintenance and apache, php, and MySQL in general, and the whole reason i'm setting up this server and running this site is to practice.

thanks.

What do your webserver logs say?

You'll have to configure your router to let incoming requests on port TCP/80 be handled by your webserver. However since you're new to this I would advice you to first make certain you don't open up your machine to all sorts of security risks. The Lampp docs have a section on security, there's http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/se.../index.en.html and we have a Linux Security forum if you have any security-related questions.

Something like 'ln -s /opt/lampp/lampp /etc/init.d/lampp && sudo update-rc.d lampp defaults', see http://www.debuntu.org/how-to-manage...th-update-rc.d for how this should work.
