To disable SMP in Redhat Linux Enterprises server 5

Hi,

Can anyone help me out in disabling SMP in Redhat Linux Enterprises server 5. As my Cisco VPN Client does not support SMP.

While the grub splash screen is displayed highlight the Linux kernel you
want to modify and press the 'e' key. Highlight the line at starts with
'kernel /vmlinuz' and press the 'e' key again. At the end of the line add
a space followed by 'nosmp' without the quotes.

hope this is what you mean. You will need to reboot to apply the changes.

If that works and you want to make it permanent you might consider editing

config files for either lilo or grub (I have no idea about grub2) generally found in /boot/grub/menu.lst for example.

I was just reading about this earlier today... maxcpus=1 may be another way, but not together 'maxcpus=1 nosmp'

stay active state tip

Those will work, however the next question from me is:
Why are you running RHEL ?. That's a licensed distro - if you are paying for support, ask them. If you're not paying for support, you probably shouldn't be asking support type questions on a public forum.
