Something is definitely wrong with your squid box;

1st, check the network stack on the squid box, ping, traceroute and try opening a web page (using lynx or links) to make sure that this box is reaching the internet correctly.

If these tests goes well, check your squid configuration and it will be helpful if you post it over here, and post;

# tail -f /var/log/squid3/access.log

or

# tail -f /var/log/squid/access.log

TCP_MISS/502

I have been looking what does TCP_MISS/502 shows, and it seems to be a DNS problem. I have made a nslookup an got the following:

nslookup www.correo-gto.com.mx
Server: 10.0.0.2
Address: 10.0.0.2#53

Non-authoritative answer:
www.correo-gto.com.mx canonical name = correo-gto.com.mx.
Name: correo-gto.com.mx
Address: 184.154.122.58

What other test do you recomend me to do?

thanks and have great day.

Hi Gunasaikia, thanks for your response, I will try it, it sounds a solution, and has gave me headache for me.
thanks for taking time to response and send me a possible solution.

I want to get into to real problem, its very strange, I have two scenarios:

1) Going out to internet via a Fortigate. (with security and rules, that I do not manage)
2) Going out to internet via home internet service provider. (with out restrictions)

via scenario 1, the problem we have, and cant access to that specific web page.
via scenario 2, the problem disappear, and can access to that specific web page.

thanks, I will write my results.

good week.

Im lifting this old thread to confirm that the quoted URL has solved this issue for me, and to show a peculiar aspect of this bug.

Thanks! This solved my issues with "read failure: (104) Connection reset by peer".
I was previously running SQUID 3.0.STABLE21 on a laptop with slAMD64 linux as a proxy/firewall - Which has served me rock solid for seven whole years. Quite an uptime!
But the dust is assembling in the fans and i guess the grease between the CPU and cooler is getting thin, so it is time to upgrade.

So i have setup a new proxy/firewall with openSUSE 12.3 (Phew! lots of bugs...) on a SUN Fire X2100 and with Squid 3.2.11.

And then i get these sporadic "read failure: (104) Connection reset by peer" error messages in the browsers.

I tried the solution of adding the below to the squid.conf file:
Code:
via off
forwarded_for delete
It solved the problem.

BUT, an interesting point is that on the previous proxy/firewall i had been running for seven years with the default:
Code:
#via on
That is, a commented out config statement for "via", and default said to be "on", and no statement at all for "forwarded_for".
This still works with the old proxy/firewall. But the new one needs the fix specified on the link above.
