Tape drive backup Linux
Hi ,
i have centos 5.9 running on my server and i have to take backup of my entire data from the different server.This one I want to make it as backup server. I need few informations about the tap drive
1.Which tape drive is good also compatible with Linux (centos ), pls send me the link
2.How to take backup into tape drive , good if you send any doc.
3. Any backup software which is kind of opensource

Have a look at Bacula. We use a commercial product here but a lot of people have recommended Bacula FOSS many times on this list and others:

I imagine any drive Bacula supports would work. I have an old DLT drive in my 32 bit CentOS5 system and backup to it with tar with no problems.

That would depend on the version of DLT drive.
I am NOT suggesting a DLT drive by the way - that is rather old technology - I was just saying that I happen to have one working doing backup with tar.

The main opensource enterprise backup products are Bacula and Amanda. I prefer Bacula but your taste may differ. http://www.bacula.org/en/
It takes a while to understand the Bacula configuration but once configured, it is a reliable and stable product.
The Bacula manual will give you a list of tape drives that have been tested. Users on the Bacula mailing list also make recommendations.
Remember to test your ability to restore your backups at regular intervals.
