Takes too much time to login screen after boot process


Hi,
I am new to Linux.I have Installed Linux Enterprise Server on my desktop.It was working ok.But yesterday due to power failure it's take two much time to login screen after boot process, even after new installation the problem is same.

Please guide me to resolve the problem.

I think its normal

Please provide little more info about your hardware and linux distro

I am new to Linux.I have to give command dmesg on root terminal?

Hi Jerry,
It takes aprox. 2-3 minutes.Before it was in second.

You said you've re-installed; did you repair it or did a fresh install by formatting partition ?

give some details about your hardware (processor, ram etc)

and also about your os

Intel Dual core 2Ghz,4GB-800Mhz RAM,500GB HDD.
Enterprise Linux Server-5 with dual boot XP

execute dmesg on root terminal, also check /var/log/messages and /var/log/secure

Check your /etc/hosts file and /etc/resolve.conf whether the entries are correct or not..

Hi,

Hosts and resolve.conf file's entries are OK.But disabling the Ethernet card the user login & password screen get's fast.

When I comment the following lines its get fast login screen,but my net will not work.

resolv.conf:

search hnp.com
#nameserver 61.1.96.69
#nameserver 61.1.96.71

You can specify the correct name servers will do..

Nice bit of detective work!

The root cause of your problem is BSNL's unreliable DNS service. See this thread for solutions.
