Sync Time Database server with the webserver

Hello,

We have several database servers and several web servers. If we want the database servers (who cannot be reached externally) to be syncing time with the web server how can do this?

Is it necessary to install a time server on the web server? Or can we sync just once?

thanks in advance.

Sinister

My suggestion would be to use ntp. Have your web servers sync with external time servers, and your database servers sync with your web servers. Once ntp has settled down ( maybe 24 hours or more ), it uses very little system resources.

Yes our web servers are connecting to an external NTP server. How can i in a simple way let the DB sync with the web servers?

By running ntp on the database servers and specifying the web servers as the time source.
It has been years since I setup ntp on the few servers that I administer ( ntp is like that, set and forget! ). I think that you may need to check that the ntp.conf file on your web servers allows queries, and that you limit requests to those coming from your servers. Also check that firewall rules allow packets to pass ( ntp uses udp and tcp on port 123 ).
