superblock failure: need /var/ data

Superblock failed and the other backups aren't resolving it.

How can I access the / partition to copy /var/ contents?

I'm SOL without that.

The HDD is physically in good condition.

Hi,

Have you try to boot up with a CD or USB key?

Mount your partition (I assume that you have just one partition with everything) and copy the contents to a safe place...

Best regards
jose

But if the superblock is bad and unrecoverable, the partition is gone. So I can't just mount can I?

Or, how would I do that?

Assuming I can't, I would need some sort of tool to recover from prompt. But I don't know any...

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Hi,

First is to have the server up and running through a live CD to try to mount the partitions, fsck them and eventually recover.

Some LiveCDs:

SystemRescueCd

Knoppix

Damn Small Linux

Could you post some logs or screenshot, photo ?
Which filesystem were you using?
Do you have LVM?

Best regards
jose
