SSH reverse DNS problem
Hi Everyone,
I've set up Ubuntu 10.04 server as a Virtual Machine on a Xen host (however I think this is irrelevant to this problem).
When I try and ssh into the VM, ssh takes quite a long time (maybe 5 or 6 seconds) to bring up the password prompt. In /var/auth/log, I see the following message:
reverse mapping checking getaddrinfo for core2.abpni.local [xx.xx.xx.xx] failed - POSSIBLE BREAK-IN ATTEMPT!
(xx.xx.xx.xx is the IP of my workstation core2.abpni.local).
What I did to fix this was to manually add an entry into /etc/hosts on the VM for my workstation. However, what confuses me, is that reverse DNS seems to be working ok on my DNS server, as if I do "nslookup xx.xx.xx.xx", it returns with the fqdn of my workstation correctly. I should probably point out that this is a Windows DNS server on the other end of a VPN, however it is listed correctly in /etc/resolv.conf
Any ideas?
Thanks
