just pulling my hair off with this misterious problem.
i m using sendmail-8.13.8-2, dovecot-1.0-0.1.rc7.fc6 in association with squirrelmail-1.4.8-2.fc6
once i added one of my user "sabbir" with the following command
# adduser -s /sbin/nologin sabbir
# passwd sabbir
after that i've tested some copy paste mail from other user. later i deleted the user sabbir as followings
# userdel -rf sabbir
now i added again the user "sabbir" and found no problem with this user except the buttons against From, Date, Subject in squirrelmail r not showing . i've deleted this user serveral times and added again. always the result is same. when sabbir is in his INBOX folder in squirrelmail, the sorting button besides From, Date, Subject is not showing. but the buttons r showing when he is in sent directory.
this problem is only for this particular user. other users r perfectly ok.
-f, --force
This option forces the removal of the user account, even if the
user is still logged in. It also forces userdel to remove the
userīs home directory and mail spool, even if another user uses the
same home directory or if the mail spool is not owned by the
specified user. If USERGROUPS_ENAB is defined to yes in
/etc/login.defs and if a group exists with the same name as the
deleted user, then this group will be removed, even if it is still
the primary group of another user.
Note: This option is dangerous and may leave your system in an
inconsistent state.
man userdel
I would check another users inbox for a squirrelmail related file (maybe a dot file) which you have removed from the sabbir account, and doesn't get recreated.
