Question Squirrelmail cannot read email even though they've been received

Alright I'm gonna be very honest and tell you I've never configured a mail server before. I've been working for about 2h making everything work fixing all errors along the way. So what have I accomplished?

I have installed postfix and I can receive mails to my /var/www/$user file. I have installed dovecot and I'm not really sure if it's working properly or not, but it's running none the less. And finally I've installed Squirrelmail which is suppose to be a web interface for reading mail, however it cannot read the mails I've receieved. I can however send mails to my gmail account and again, I get mails to my /var/mail/$user directory

Worth noting is that I can read mails perfectly fine using mutt, a terminal based email client, running the following command: mutt -f imap://user@domain.com/user

The following is my dovecot configuration file:

Code:
!include_try /usr/share/dovecot/protocols.d/*.protocol

dict {
  #quota = mysql:/etc/dovecot/dovecot-dict-sql.conf.ext
  #expire = sqlite:/etc/dovecot/dovecot-dict-sql.conf.ext
}

!include conf.d/*.conf
!include_try local.conf

mail_location = mbox:/var/mail/

protocols = imap imaps
As I said, I haven't done this before. It's almost 2AM here so maybe I've missed something simple. Appreciate all help

I'm not super familiar with Squirrelmail but I did some Google-ing. Try modifying the dovecot config's mail_location line to:
Code:
mail_location=maildir:/var/mail/%u/Maildir

Solved it earlier today. Don't know why but a guy had solved this before using mail_location=mbox:~/mail:INBOX=/var/mail/u. That worked for me as well
