squid proxy server tuning

hi all
we having more than 5000 users and will have 7 squid proxy servers with high end configuration upto 4gb ram n 320*5 HD in rhel4&5
most of them complaining that at peak hours their browsing speed is slow but we are having 1gbpgs link at peak hours i.e when established connections r flowing more than 550 browsing gets slow

please any one suggest me how to do fine tuning are squid is only responsible to access upto 600 connections

if any one suggest me its my pleasure

you can limit the users by many ways in squid, but u need to stop bulk downloaders

, first install sarg reports for squid, based on sarg reports block top 10 users daily by user name as well as mac address.. block facebook orkut, youtube like those sites block file contents like
flash flv swf limiting bandwidth by delay pools and many more in squid..
