Squid Problem
I am truly a newbie to linux as well as computer. I would like to set up squid in my house computer. I have a question which is is it possible to set up squid with only one computer and one network card?
Your help is greatly appreciated by me and others. A billion thanks to any help or idea and recommendations. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. |
well yes it's totally possible. if you're only using in there, then you shouldn't need to configure anythign at all either, just point your browser proxy at 127.0.0.1:3128 once it's started.

Sorry for stupidness. I really do not understand what u mean. Is it require me to configure the /etc/hosts and /etc/sysconfig/network to add the hostname ? If not, then a step by step is needed for me to solve this problem.
Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. |
you've not even told us what the "problem" is yet. why do you think /etc/hosts may be involved??
and don't put all that Thanks junk on your posts. it won't encourage a quicker answer from anyone. please read this, and once you have, we'll start from the beginning again http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html |
The file is to set up the host name. My question is it necessary to set up the hostname because my hsotanme is localhost.localdomain.
I have read that before. Thanks for oyur posting. |
squid wants an FQDN as normal. if you don't have a DNS framework for it to derive it from, you can use the visible_hostname option to manually define it. if it doesn't complain, then don't worry about it.

Then, what should i do now ? Thanks for your patient and help. I bag your pardon, if i ask for stupid question.
Thanks. |
i just said you can set the visible_hostname option didn't i?
