Squid MySql authentication - storing passwords

I have found some resources for MySql auth with squid proxy server.
Is there a way to store the passwords as encrypted text or is it all done with plain text in the DB?
eg: http://techgurulive.com/2008/11/04/h...from-mysql-db/
