squid dead but pid file exist
 
Respected Fiends,
I configured the squid server and its running
excellently. We have approx 2000 users.
Nowadays a messages is coming "SQUID DEAD BUT PID FILE EXIST".
The squid get stopped. But Later on if I start the service it runs for some time and again I have to restart it again.
I will be very thankful if anybody can help me out.

Unfortunately, that's not much information. Can you post the data from your squid log files leading up to the time that Squid stops working?

So it dies without warning and leaves a pid file so you cannot restart the service? If you are 100% sure the service isn't running, just rename the pid file. Pid files are just text files with a number in them. Pids are usually in /var/run

You can check where it is for your squid by looking in /etc/init.d/<what ever in here starts squid> Restart the service and check to see if the pid comes back /var/run. Check with ps or top to see if it is running, if not start checking logs.
