squid alternative

Hello all
and it's my first thread in this site.

I'm trying to configure a squid server on CentOS 5.4.
It's really good but I think is there any squid alternative.

Is there any software like squid?

thanks all

Hello and welcome to LinuxQuestions,

You could have a look at Nginx. Never used it since I have Squid running but Nginx looks pretty easy and straightforward to set up. Have fun with Linux.

Kind regards,

Eric

Eric

thank you for your reply, but i heard Nginx is only a web server with transparent reversed proxy.

Hello,

You can read some more about the features of Nginx on its Wiki. If you specify more in detail why you are looking for an alternative to Squid and what functions you are looking for in a proxy/reverse proxy, then a maybe some other proxy software might be more suitable.

Kind regards,

Eric

You are having Tinyproxy and privoxy as the alternative solution. They comes with their own limitations.

Hi,

Yes it is, as described in this link found with a quick Google search (it turned up a lot of documentation on the subject so have a look).

Kind regards,

Eric
