Spamassassin Functionality?

I was getting some SPAM to my email server (POSTFIX) so I found that Spamassassin is popular and widely used. I did a search and found a guide that showed me how to install it and configure it to minimal settings. It appears to basically handle the email after postfix has managed them in the queue and then score them based on criteria however all I can see is that Spamassassin just adds ***SPAM*** to the header / subject field and nothing more for me at this point. It does not appear to be assassinating anything or do I have a incorrect perception of this application? I was under the assumption it removed messages it deemed to be SPAM.

Go read this page: http://advosys.ca/papers/postfix-filtering.html under the Software section towards the beginning about SpamAssassin. The writer pretty much nails how it should work. You shouldn't really ever delete a message but rather filter it. Really in the end, the user can determine if it's spam or not. Probably the best thing to do is create yourself a rule to put anything tagged as SPAM to a SPAM folder, then review. If you don't recognize the sender, delete it, etc.
