Software RAID 5 CentOS Install
I'm planning to install Centos 6.3 into a software RAID 5. It's for a home based server.

I know when you create a RAID 1 that grub needs to be installed on both drives in the array incase you need to boot from the second drive, but does the same apply with a RAID 5? I know I can't swap drives around in a RAID 5 like in 1 but some BIOS's will let you speciify other drives to boot from.

Thanks Much.

you can't boot to raid5 at all AFAIK. When you have a RAID1, grub is generally just accessed as a single device in teh first place. Whilst you have this /dev/md0 block device, the filesystem on each device is still complete and can be read as whatever filesystem it is when mounted. With Raid5, there is no complete filessytem on any device.

/boot makes no sense to raid anyway, just keep it separate and it'll be fine.

Thanks.. glad I didn't get halfway through an install only to find out it wasn't going to work.
