I can send and receive mails properly from other systems . the only issue i face is when my printers in the network try to send email then i get the following error

lost input channel from [x.x.x.x] to mta after mail
where x.x.x.x is my printer IP address.

The printers are in a different VLAN.

What does the above error mean and how can i solve it

Try putting these things into your sendmail.cf file, rebuilding it, and restarting sendmail.
The problem, if you tried to look it up, relates to DNS lookups. Since you can send from computers (probably either statically addressed or via DHCP), they're resolvable. Printers probably aren't.

The lines above delay the DNS check until the queue runner cycles; they don't hinder the initial message submission. LMP sends the message to Sendmail, There are NO checks performed on the recipient at this time. It sits in the queue for 1 minute, then queue runner comes along to work on the message and does it's job separately in the background from there.

It was a DNS issue. The DNS query were taking long time to execute and sometimes used to timeout.

Right...which is exactly why looking the error up first (before posting a question), can lead you to an answer.
