Question SME Alias file

Hi,

I am trying to migrate aliases from SME7 to Zimbra 8.0.7. I have managed to run a script but I have noticed that the web interface aliases dont reflect that of /etc/aliases file. I was wondering what file the web interface gets holds its data.

You'll find what you're looking for right here

By the way, your not looking for the SME alias file, you'd find that in the SME manual, you've migrated to Zimbra., which means your answer is in the Zimbra Administrators guide, not the SME administrators guide.
If I can be of further assistance, don't hesitate to ask,

Question

The script that I am using seems to(Im not a coder so correct me if Im wrong) look for the alias file in SME. The command to run the script is:

./aliases2zmprov /etc/aliases 1> aliases.zmp 2> aliases.err

The script I am running is lifted off this website http://wiki.zimbra.com/wiki/Aliases_file_Migration

I have got it to migrate the aliases as per the /etc/aliases file, but as this file doesnt reflect the SME web interface its moving across what the aliases file says and not what the SME gui says, so this suggests to me that the aliases must be being held in a different file in a different location.

It is the SME end which is the issue not the zimbra end. The script is to create zmprov commands for me to run on the zimbra server. It is creating the zmprov commands, but not reflecting the SME gui. Until I get those zmprov files which reflect the SME gui aliases I cant do anything on the zimbra side.

I hope this gives more specific information. By the way all the parts of the script on that page that needs customising to my network have been changed ;-)

After this I will be looking for a scrip to migrate groups. I thought this script does both aliases & groups but not so sure on the groups side of it so may need to hunt around for another script for groups

Shouldn't you ask the community that supports Zimbra that question?

Question

Ok, I thought this forum was Linux as a whole. my bad. I'm obviously wrong. I will try different forum.

Surely the SME forum would be better as the Alias file in SME is NOT reflecting the SME web interface which is where the issue is. I suspect if I went to the zimbra forum and said the script I have got from your site is working. Its reading the /etc/aliases file correctly and fine, but that file does not reflect the gui on the SME box, I suspect they would tell me to go to a SME forum. Forgive me if my logic doesn't make sense. I dont actually understand why you think its a zimbra issue as the script from zimbra WORKS! Its not the script thats the issue at all. It's a simple case of not knowing the location of the file that holds the gui alias data. Its blatantly not /etc/aliases as it doesnt reflect it. I am getting the zmprov commands which is what the script is meant to do. I am getting the zmprov commands that reflect /etc/aliases but as that file does not reflect the gui then its not giving me the correct aliases. the command run for the script is

./aliases2zmprov /etc/aliases 1> aliases.zmp 2> aliases.err

I apologise if this post seemed a bit patronising, wasnt intentional, just trying to get the information across differently and better worded and hopefully with clear description of what the issue actually is.

I apologise that this forum doesnt deal with zimbra or sme, I just thought this forum was for linux across the board so as I work through this issue if I run into issues after locating the file instead of going between several forums if I should have to I can keep it to one forum, but thats just me being lazy I suppose!

I will post onto the specific forums and do it that way

I appreciate you taking time and helping me
