simple mod_rewrite question

I have an urgent need to translate some URLs and unfortunately I know almost nothing of regular expressions... every mod_rewrite tutorial that I have found assumes that I know how to use regular expressions so I am completely lost!
I need to translate hxxp://* to hxxp://* where * could be just about anything. if somebody could either help me write the .htaccess file for this or point me to some very newbie-ish guides it would be much appreciated...

thanks in advance!
