Several NFS questions

I have a Fedora 9 server.

I have various wired and wireless workstations.

I want to export one or more folders on the server and mount them on the clients.

1) Samples of the exports file would be appreciated.
2) Samples of the fstab file on the clients would be appreciated.
3) For wireless machines, this does not seem to work because when the client boots and fstab is processed, the client has yet to connect and get an IP and therefore cannot find the server. What are possible workarounds?

Thanks.

One word: AutoFS

It will mount it when needed, umount when it's not needed.

Okay, first go read the autofs documentation at http://www.linux-consulting.com/Amd_AutoFS/autofs.html

Or if you're using RHEL/Fedora, etc, you can get more specific instructions here: http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/e...ig-autofs.html

Then if you don't understand anything, come back and ask more specific questions instead of very vague questions that manuals and docs already answer.

/etc/exports:

/location/of/folder 10.1.1.IP(rw,sync,subtree_check,root_squash) 10.1.1.IP2(rw,sync,subtree_check,root_squash)

/location/of/folder = location
IP = ip address of client machine

rw = read/write
root_squash = does not allow ROOT to write

/etc/hosts.allow:

ALL: 10.1.1.IP , 10.1.1.IP

/etc/fstab:

10.1.1.IP:/location/of/folder /place/to/mount nfs rw,hard,intr,user,nosuid,udp,nfsvers=3 0 0

here is a fstab line with some good options.

IP = nfs server
/place/to/mount = duh!

good luck!

I think the OP already understands that or how to mount a regular NFS, they're having problems with wireless clients connecting though, where the final wireless link is made after the initial mount attempt, which fails since there's not link.

That's why I suggested autofs. It will mount only when needed, not at boot time and loading the mounts from /etc/fstab.
