Setting start up programs?

I am trying to set command lines to run at start up, but I don't have the faintest Idea how to. I am using Ubuntu Server 10.10, and I am trying to get the following to run at start up:

Code:
sudo /etc/init.d/vsftpd start
Code:
sudo /etc/init.d/ssh start
Code:
java -Xmx400M -Xms400M -jar minecraft_server.jar nogui

Hi,

I think you want vsftpd and ssh to tun permanently when computer starts.

So do this:

use
Quote:
sysv-rc-conf

I couldn't get sysv-rc-conf to install, I just get a error saying that there was no installation candidate, but it is referred to by another package.

use chkconfig

I use chkconfig to add programs to the startup run levels

You can install chkconfig on ubuntu and centos.

chkconfig --add sendmail 345

chkconfig sendmail on

replace sendmail with your program you want started on boot

Mainly there are two ways to in ubantu when your start up programs will run at starting,The first is Save your session will start after you log on, and second is when your pc will be restarted.and second is to Configure Ubuntu to run an application every time you sign on.You can use tabsSystem > Preferences > Sessions and System > Preferences > Startup Applications to set startup programs.
