server-to-server email migration tool.
 

Hello,
I have 2 servers in different countries.
One is expiring soon and the other needs to replace it.

All users have email accounts using IMAP, and I have all the passwords.

Is there a tool (which uses imap) which I can run on the NEW server which logs in into the old server, and creates local copy of all the folders and emails on the remote server.

Any help would be apreciated,

can't you just setup SSH and SCP the mailboxes/configs over?

The servers have completly different structures.
One is Mbox based and the other maildir based.

So it is not as easy as just copying the files.

FYI:
This tool is quite outdated and does not work with PHP5 unless you spend an hour fixing it.

But still faster than doing something yourself which is the mail goal here.

I have also encountered this type of problem when we backlashed our existing mail server and replaced with a new one. Our old server uses Mbox and I configured the new mail server box to use Maildir simply because of management simplicity. There are a lot of scripts that you can find to convert Mbox to Maildir. However you will have to do the conversion one email account at a time.

Fortunately for us, the servers are located in the same building so we just put both servers up and then logged on to both servers on a per-account basis and transferred the user mails to the new mail boxes via the mail client. Quite tedious but it worked.
