server provided home pages for all network machines' browser

I wonder how the home page for any browser is forced from the Server. I have seen this when connecting to a public wifi or network. Regardless of what you set your home page as, it gets overridden by the provider's home page. I have read that this is implemented by Windows server group policy (probably AD). Is this something achievable in an all Linux server environment (Router/DNS/DHCP) to mixed clients (Linux/Windows/Mac)?

Cheers

Achievable through Apache via the use of sessions, very difficult, usually used for session based services like free wifi at public places like hotels, coffee shops, etc..

Take a quick look at: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1...eb-application

That should help get you started in the right direction with some key terms to start looking up. Let us know if you have specific questions along the way.
