Serial Connections Problem

Hello Everyone,

I've been using minicom to connect two different computers, and works flawlessly. However currently I'm in a situation where I have to boot the remote host into a live bootable disk. With minicom I'm only able to view the POST BIOS check, and afterwards I'll lose connection to the remote host.

Has anyone have luck using minicom to connect to a host with a bootable Linux cd? I always thought minicom supported full serial terminal connections. Do you have any other full serial terminal emulators recommendation besides minicom that can possibly do this job?

Thanks in advanced.

I am not aware of any regular desktop PCs that will send BIOS boot messages to the serial port. Is this host a server? What distribution including the live CD are you using on the host?

It is not the fault of minicom but the configuration setup of the live CD. You will need to remaster it to use a serial console. There are many howtos on configuring a serial console. This one might provide some additional insight

It is server. Essentially what I wanted to do is to have a live Knoppix cd on one of our servers and in case I wanted to reboot the server, I would be able to boot directly to the Knoppix cd. Which I'm able to do so with Minicom until Knoppix finishes configuring the devices, afterwards I'll lose the serial connection completely. I will look into the tldp documentation that you've provided. Thanks
