Sendmail reading active directory

I have 14 Micro$oft small business servers deployed in a wider area network.

Each of these servers is running an instance of Exchange.
I would like to run a sendmail instance inside the DMZ and route email to each of the satellite servers.

The best solution would be to have sendmail enquire against each of the ADs to see if an email address resides on a remote Microsoft machines.

Of course the address could reside on many servers (roll email addresses would be a good example of this e.g.

After some googeling around I am still at a loss to find a way to go forward. Although, I can get open ldap to return email addresses using a ommand line enquiry.

Has anyone got any ideas. It seems to me that this could be a valuable piece of work and after I have a solution I will publish a full description of my solution on this forum.

Your ideas, suggestions and even criticism would be most welcome.

ldap, sendmail
