Sendmail (mailserver) -- sending mail with the mail command -- doesn't work :-(
 
Hello,

I've problems sending email with Sendmail over the internet.
My mails always end in up in the file /var/spool/mail/root.

This is the command:
mail cccc[at]hotmail.com
subject: hello
hello
.

in /var/spool/mail/root, I get the error:

Hi Caroline,

I cannot directly answer your question, but wanted to point out that hotmail does not accept nor forward emails that do not originate from an 'official' or 'real' mail server. This is indicated in the body of the error message above. You might try sending (the) emails to another destination that isn't so picky about where the email comes from. Just open yourself a free account somewhere and do some testing.

Also note: In case the cccc email address contained within your post is your real address, I have edited it so it does not appear as a mailto: link, thereby protecting you to some degree from SPAM harvesters. In the future, try to not post your real address in-thread, as you'll wind up getting SPAMmed ;)
