sendmail: did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to MTA
hardware = raq550 running on strongbolt2.
my sendmail log is littered with this entry all through the day: localhost [127.0.0.1] did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to MTA it occurrs every 15 minutes. I don't have any problem sending or receiving mail. I did a search on google but couldn't find a clear answer. What causes this entry and is there a fix? thanks for any advice. |
This usually happens when a process connects to MTA and exits without issuing any mail commands. Most probably you have a monitoring application installed that check availability of your SMTP server.

ok thanks for your response. How would I know if/what was checking the smtp server? I can't think of any application on my server that would do this. I'm running strongbolt2.
