sendmail: did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to MTA

hardware = raq550 running on strongbolt2.
my sendmail log is littered with this entry all through the day:
localhost [127.0.0.1] did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to MTA
it occurrs every 15 minutes. I don't have any problem sending or receiving mail. I did a search on google but couldn't find a clear answer. What causes this entry and is there a fix? thanks for any advice.

This usually happens when a process connects to MTA and exits without issuing any mail commands. Most probably you have a monitoring application installed that check availability of your SMTP server.

ok thanks for your response. How would I know if/what was checking the smtp server? I can't think of any application on my server that would do this. I'm running strongbolt2.

I'm having the same issue ...both sendmail and dovecot are littering the logs with these. Is it possible to have sendmail/dovecot not log these localhost entries?
