sending mail from console - DNS issues

I'm trying to send email from a Redhat 5.1 server (uses sendmail) but it's failing with a DNS issue. The server name on my DNS is "server.domain.com" but on the system it's showing "serverj.domain.com" - I have tried resolving that issue and given up. Anyhow, my mail bounces back saying "Domain of sender address root@serverj.domain.com does not exist." I got sendmail running but I haven't configured anything on sendmail. Is there any way to resolve this issue by reconfiguring sendmail somehow?

Thanks.

What do you mean - does the DNS record say that your RHEL 5.1's FQDN is "server.domain.com", while your RHEL 5.1 belives it is named "serverj"?

/etc/sysconfig/network should contain HOSTNAME=server.domain.com

/etc/hosts should contain your.ip.addr.ess server.domain.com server

If you can't get the basics solved, what makes you think attempting a more complex and advanced solution will be any better?
