Send message via LAN

I have server Ubuntu 14.0 and twenty clients (from WinXP to Win10). They are connected via Samba to some share folders with apps and documents. I'd like send message to clients (all or some) from my workstation (Win7). What' s best way. Thx for answers.

Welcome to LinuxQuestions.

I assume you are looking for an instant messaging program for your LAN and there are several available for both Windows and linux. I don't use them so I can not recommend one.

If you're honestly using Windows XP, Windows 7, and Ubuntu 14...you *REALLY* need to upgrade your systems first, rather than adding an instant messenger program on. You've got so many security issues as it stands, I'd not add any others.

Past that, Openfire is fairly robust, easy to administer, and has clients for all the major OS'es (Linux, Windows, and Mac). Even supports video and VOIP. And read the LQ Rules about text-speak, and not using it. It's "Thanks", not "thx"

I think the OP means Samba messaging.

What you are referring is the Windows Messenger service which has been discontinued and should be disabled on older versions. As suggested the OP should go with Openfire.

I meant without installing the client on workstations. Net send is no longer supported. I understand well, without the installation of the clients is not possible.
