script/application to extract attachments from email

Hello,

I am looking for some sort of script or application to extract files attached to emails that are located in a standard linux mailbox format file (ie. /var/spool/mail) without the need to use an email reader such as apline or mozilla.

Thank you very much,
Murdock

You can try uudeview. It will accepts mailbox files as input, scan them for encoded data and ask you what to do for each attachment. You can also pipe the output of the mail command and tell uudeview to read from standard input. This is useful if you want to decode one particular message only.
