SAN volume : Partition & format or direct format
 

Hello all,

I just want to know about difference of following two.
and what will be good from following two ?

One SAN lun (thorough FC) is exported correctly as mpathx. Now I have two options.

1. Create single partition, format(create file system) and mount.
2. Directly format(create file system) and mount.

Someone please provide difference or what will be good.

If you want to boot from the system then you have to create a partition else not. And depending on what you want to put on the san and who uses it. It might be beneficial to create more partitions to create a separation between different filesystems for users and or programs.
