Question SAMBA4 scripts

Hello LQ community,

I have tried out the Samba4 Appliance:

http://www.enterprisesamba.org/samba...a-4-appliance/

I have found that it works very well and am particularly impressed with the dcpromo and samba4 status scripts and was just wondering whether they could be transferred to a ubuntu server with a manual install of samba4 on it. If it could this would really help me alot!

Kudos to those who created the appliance and Samba4 itself. So far so good.

I have contacted a Dr Loxen at Sernet; if I do get a response for this question I will post the outcome here.

I got a response from sernet:

The scripts are not compatible to other Samba 4 setups out of the box. There is a lot of code in the scripts that depends on other installedtools and configurations in the appliance. But the main part is writtenwith the option to getting them to work with other setups withoutchanging or rewriting significant parts of these scripts. But in summary I think, that it is easier to refer to the Samba 4 howto. It's very detailed and each step is described at full length. A lot ofthe points are optional. The typical, initial installation can be donewith a few steps.
