Question Samba Share: how to make read only data by owner

hi to all

[test]
path=/apna/test
writable=yes
browsable=yes
force create mode = 0555
force directory mode = 0555

This is smb.conf file script to share a directory named as "test" . this is shared by Samba for Windows Machines.
there is a user "majid" . that is owner of that "test" directory, and the directory will be accessed from windows machine by using this login of "majid".
i want, the owner of that directory can only write/read/execute data but cant delete it. even he is owner of that directory.

i got an idea from my friend to use
force create mode = 0555
force directory mode = 0555

but this not working. when user write any data, he is deleting also.
please help me .

Best Regards:

Mian

If a user have write permissions it don't think it makes too much sense to not let the user delete also. The user will be able to empty the file. Owerwrite it with empty content.

Or do you mean he shouldn't be able to delete the directory but have RWX to the files located in that folder?

In linux you can only set read, write and execute rights. I have never heard of delete right. So I think you will not be able to achieve this. As noden mentioned, it is not very useful if the user can write to files.

By the way, your share is writeable to everyone.

[test]
path=/apna/test
writable=no
browsable=yes
printable=no
write list=majid
create mask=0555
directory mask=0555
