Guys - I am setting up my workstation (Debian) to dish out a SMB share to the LAN I am in. I have basically only want to share out two shares. One being my CDROM, this way if someone needs a file or data that is not on the LAN, I can throw it in my CDROM and they can simply map my CDROM share shown below and obtain the files they need. This seems to be not too difficult but then I also have a mounted partition called /share. This /share partition is a spare drive (S-ATA) in my box and I want anyone and everyone to be able to rwx to my predefined /share "share".
I am now editing my smb.conf file and I am confused because I believe the default is that in order to access my SMB share, you must have a shell account which is what I do NOT want. I want it to be open authentication so now I am wondering what do I change this setting to. The document ion does not live in the path specified in the commented section - I searched my system high and dry for it.
Code:
####### Authentication #######
# "security = user" is always a good idea. This will require a Unix account
# in this server for every user accessing the server. See
# /usr/share/doc/samba-doc/htmldocs/Samba3-HOWTO/ServerType.html
# in the samba-doc package for details.
; security = user
Any thoughts on what to change "user" to? I also show my smb.conf shares below in case anyone needs to see what I did.
Code:
# Sharing My CDROM
[cdrom]
comment = My CDROM
writable = no
locking = no
path = /media/cdrom0
public = yes
# My share drive for misc. data.
[share]
comment = My Share Drive
writable = yes
locking = no
path = /share
public = yes
