samba over VMware


hi all

i have a problem with configuring samba on a fedora system in Vmware with a vista host.

i should select NAT for networking between vista and Vmware[fedora] ?

then what can i do to see shared drive on linux in vmware?
internet shared form vista to vmware but samba do not work.
when i select network place on fedora i saw this errror : unable to mount location
. please help me.

If you only wish to communicate between a vm and the host on a vmware server / player setup then the networking choice does not matter, as the choice of bridging / natting is how the vm reaches the outside world, not the vm host. If you can ping between them then any other network service will work to a similar level of success as far as the networking is concerned. Note that samba and vmware have directly nothing in common whatsoever. you either have a network issue or a samba issue, they will be unrelated.

Hi,

try configuring your samba like Setup easy share via samba without a password

and then check from windows to open my computer and then enter the IP address of your server to see what you are sharing:
enter: \\10.0.0.150 ( <--- change this to your server IP (nevermind running in Vmware)

than the shared directory name will show up ...
otherwise you don't have network configured properly, which can be on your server or in VMware settings

is there also anyway to see windows shared folder on my vm OS? like fedora?

sure,
Mounting Windows Shared Folder on Linux with Samba should give you the basic idea how to mount a Windows shared folder to your Linux machine
