SAMBA and linux
 

i have set up an LTSP network along with windows server 2003

currently both homedirs and authentication is on LTSP server

i want to move home directories of users from LTSP server to another server that will host only samba server(ie authentication and homedirs for LTSP users)

how do i do that?
how to connect a linux machne to the samba domain?

I suggest you visit the Samba HOWTO documentation site where you will find answers to the majority of your questions. Also, Samba 3 By Example, which is a PDF book available for download from the Samba site, will provide you will real-world examples on how to use Samba in a enterprise environment.

Installing Samba and maybe a samba-doc package will give you the two books you mentioned. (in /usr/share/doc/samba-<version>/ or /usr/share/doc/packages/samba/ depending on which distro you have). There is another installed called Using Samba that is an html version of the book. I think it is version 2 while the one in the bookstore is version 3. The latter version in the bookstore deals more with AD whereas the one installed with samba deals more with LDAP.
The skinny, is that if you configure a Linux host properly with samba, you can log into a windows machine as a network administrator and use the same tool to join the Samba host to the domain as you would to join a windows host to the domain. The Using Samba book will have the details. Look in /usr/share/samba/swat/using_samba/
