rsh error : Port not specified and can't find service: exec with getservbyname

Hi,

I have configured rsh on Rhel 5.7 as mentioned below :

Code:
installed the rsh-server rpm
edited the /etc/xinetd.d/rexec (changed disabled = yes to no)
edited the /etc/xinetd.d/rlogin (changed disabled = yes to no)
edited the /etc/xinetd.d/rsh (changed disabled = yes to no)

edited /etc/securetty & added rsh rlogin and rexec to it.

updated ~/.rhosts file with the resolved names of the servers.
When I restart xinetd service I am getting below mentioned error in /var/log/messages :

Quote:
Port not specified and can't find service: exec with getservbyname
Port not specified and can't find service: login with getservbyname
and rsh is not working. I have configured rsh with above mentioned steps on Rhel 5.2. Is there any change in config for Rhel 5.7 ?

Kindly help.

rsh as rlogin and rexec are not secure.

You are encouraged to use ssh bundle. That is secured and will allow you to do exactly the same task as the remote commands you have just installed.
