root_squash is default in NFS server
hi all
i'm newbie to redhatlinux Q: why root_squash is default in nfs server? plz answer to my question Thankyou suresh |
root_squash - Requests from root clients are mapped to the nobody user and group ID so they will only have file privileges associated with other.

Simple Logic for root_squash
Hi Suresh,
The normal behaviour of a user is that he can access his files on the NFS Server just as he would access on a normal filesystem (ie local server & not NFS Server) So it is not desirable that the root user on a client machine is also treated as root when accessing files which are mounted by the NFS Server. Hence uid 0 is normally mapped to a different ID ie nobody uid. This mode of operation is called as root squashing Regards, Devendra Koli |
