root login problum in linux server
it seems like you can't understand me. what i was trying to say was that i can't log in, i am not even given the the password prompt.
example: there is a login prompt..... login: i then have to type in my log name..... login:root if i press ENTER....... login: it goes back to the login prompt. it doesn't give me the password: i hope you now understand. so, it means i can not log in at all. even as root. |

ANYWAY: Q: Have you tried logging directly on to the console? Many systems have security restrictions against "root" logging on anywhere besides the console. Q: Have you tried logging in as a normal user (e.g. the username you were prompted for when you installed the system)? Some systems will only permit logons to non-root users (and you can "sudo" for privileged commands as needed once you're logged in). Q: Failing all else, have you tried booting from your rescue disk to see if /etc/passwd (or something like it) might be damaged or corrupt? |
Hello and Welcome to LinuxQuestions,
It looks like this is your first post but yet you seem to be answering as in a conversation with someone. So I'm officially confused  If you cannot login as root on your system, use a LiveCD/DVD, chroot into your system and check the log files in there, the permissions on passwd and shadow (if applicable). Kind regards, Eric |
thank you
for your replay i will tray and i will inform |
